POLITICO to launch new POLITICO Pro Newsletter in Germany: Industry & Trade
Announcement from Senior Executive Editor, Kate Day; Regional Director, Jamil Anderlini; Executive Editor for Germany, Gordon Repinski; and General Manager for Germany, Cecil von Busse:
Team —
As the dust settles on the German elections and transatlantic relations undergo a seismic shift, the importance of POLITICO’s German expansion to our audience is clearer than ever – and we wanted to take a moment to map out what’s next for our coverage.
German reporting is already infusing our European policy coverage areas – from defense to energy and climate to mobility and making our transatlantic coverage more robust. The German audience’s embrace of POLITICO – evidenced most recently at our successful Back to the Bundestag party in Berlin earlier this week and by scoopy reporting on the coalition negotiations – has been impressive.
So we’re delighted that we’re further expanding our German offering with the roll-out of our first POLITICO Pro vertical focused on German policy making with Industry & Trade, launching on June 3.
Published in German, our growing team will cover German industrial and trade policy, including its intersections with key areas shaping Germany’s political and economic future, like energy pricing and supply issues, automotive incentives and Germany’s rearmament program.
Deepening and expanding POLITICO Pro is a critical component to our operations in Europe. We’ve already witnessed impressive success with Pro products in London and Paris focused on national policy making. These have successfully extended our reach — such as Energie & Climat France, which recently celebrated its first anniversary. We are also finding new ways to connect our teams together across geographies so that this additional depth also strengths our work everywhere.
Further details are here and below, but we’re thrilled to announce that Thorsten Mumme will join POLITICO as Editor for this newsletter starting May 19. Thorsten will be joined by Laura Hülsemann , Romanus Otte and Tom Schmidtgen. Laura will be a familiar face to many from her stellar work on the Brussels Decoded newsletter, whereas Romanus joins us from Business Insider Germany on May 2, while Tom brings his experience as a freelance journalist.Â
Our editorial team in Germany, led by Gordon Repinski with Jürgen Klöckner directing policy coverage, is building on the momentum of an action-packed launch year. We successfully rolled out Berlin Playbook as both a newsletter and a daily podcast, brought POLITICO’s signature reporting style to the revolving doors of German national politics and unpacked their broader implications across the continent.
Our coverage of the recent Federal Elections notably highlighted our transatlantic strengths as well, with Emily Schultheis joining us from our California bureau. She joined our English-language team in Berlin, James Angelos and Nette Nostlinger, to brilliantly articulate the elections’ significance for our global readership.
We’re excited to build on this momentum with Industry & Trade, delivering insightful daily coverage that informs and shapes policy decisions – a formula that has already proven successful for Pro in Washington, Brussels, London, and Paris.
All the best,
Kate, Jamil, Gordon and Cecil
